September 17, 2024, at 1150hrs, at the Command Building I, Government House, following the weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra disclosed that the cabinet has made an approval to Ministry of Finance’s economic stimulus plan (the Digital Wallet scheme) which will hand out 10,000 Baht/person to 12.4 million state welfare cardholders and 2.15 million persons with disabilities. The payment, which will be made in cash, will start from September 25, 2024 onwards.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the plan will strictly be implemented according to the law, and that all concerned agencies, i.e., Office of Council of State, the Bank of Thailand, and Office of National Economic and Social Development Council, have approved the plan in principle.
This is the 1st phase of the Digital Wallet scheme which is aimed to boost the economy through domestic spending of the vulnerable groups who are the most likely to actually spend according to Ministry of Finance’s statistics. The Prime Minister added that the Ministry would later reveal the detail of the scheme.
