July 17, 2026, at 1600hrs (Shanghai local time), at Xijiao State Guest Hotel, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul paid a courtesy call on President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China. The meeting was carried out in a broad and profound manner. President Xi extended his humble wishes to His Majesty the King of Thailand on the occasion of His Majesty’s birthday anniversary on July 28, 2026. The Prime Minister expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for the royally-fitting welcome during the recent state visit to China of His and Her Majesties.
 

President Xi emphasized “Thailand–China as One Family” and reaffirmed that China is ready to forge cooperation with the Thai Government on elevating comprehensive strategic partnership. The focus will be on creating new opportunities for Thailand through cooperation in economy, investment, artificial intelligence (AI), future industries, and regional security.
 

According to the Government Spokesperson, the discussion between both leaders were aimed at building a secure and sustainable future for the two countries, as well as for the region as a whole. Both the Prime Minister and President Xi reaffirmed commitment to continuing long-standing friendship between Thailand and China, and to driving cooperation into concrete outcomes that will foster economic growth, enhance Thailand’s competitiveness, and create new opportunities for the people in the long run.
 

Thailand places importance on China as a trusted old friend and is ready to strengthen cooperation in all dimensions, especially in advancing the future economy. As AI will be a key technology shaping national competitiveness in the coming decade, the Prime Minister encouraged Thailand and China to work together in developing AI technology, human resources, and governance frameworks to ensure that AI benefits people in an inclusive and equitable manner, while also addressing emerging challenges, such as, cybercrime and climate change.

The Prime Minister proposed that Thailand and China jointly open up a new round of economic opportunities by promoting investment in future industries, i.e., AI, semiconductors, health technology, clean energy, and green industries. He extended an invitation for leading Chinese high-tech businnesses to invest in Thailand, and use  the country as a production base and regional headquarters. This would help connect supply chains, develop Thai human resources, and increase the use of domestic raw materials, thereby, creating quality jobs and enhancing Thailand’s economic competitiveness.
 

The two leaders also came to terms to accelerate connectivity in transportation, trade, and logistics infrastructure, both by land, sea, and air, including the development of regional railway networks. This is in order to facilitate trade, investment, and people’s travel. They further agreed to expand cooperation in space technology, public health, human resource development, and people-to-people exchanges, to further promote mutual understanding and long-term collaboration.

On security, both sides agreed to establish a 2+2 mechanism between the Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers of Thailand and China as a strategic dialogue platform. They also committed to enhancing cooperation in combating cybercrime, exchanging intelligence, and addressing new forms of threats, which will also help strengthen regional safety and stability.

With regard to the regional issues, the Prime Minister thanked China for supporting Thailand’s effort to resolve the Thailand–Cambodia situation through bilateral mechanisms in order to jointly maintain peace and stability in the region. Thailand and China also agreed to support the peace process in Myanmar, as well as to strengthen collaboration in such regional mechanisms as China–ASEAN, APEC, and the Mekong–Lancang Cooperation, for the best interest of the peoples of both countries.

The Government Spokesperson concluded that this discussion reflects the Government’s vision of leveraging international relations as a mechanism to create economic opportunities and enhance national capacity. The aim is to transform long-standing friendship between Thailand and China into tangible cooperation, be it, attracting investment in future industries, advancing AI technology, creating quality jobs, and reinforcing regional stability, for long-term benefit of the people of both nations.
