July 12, 2026, Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek disclosed that Thailand is concretely on its way to becoming world’s manufacturing base for future technology. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its latest report, ranks Thailand among the world’s top 4 exporters of AI-related hardware, alongside Taiwan, Malaysia, and South Korea.
In the report, IMF assessed that Thailand’s GDP will expand beyond previous forecasts, supported by the Government’s stimulus measures, emergency fiscal policies, and strong exports and investment in the technology sector.
According to the Government Spokesperson, this assessment aligns with the country’s development direction set by the Government, which designates AI, semiconductors, and advanced electronics as ones of the strategic industries to drive Thailand’s long-term economy. The Government has now expedited the development of related ecosystem, be it digital and energy infrastructure, high-skilled workforce training, research and innovation, investment facilitation, and the establishment of a National Semiconductor Policy Committee, in a bid to position Thailand as a key production base and supply chain hub in the global technology industry.
Thailand also plays a proactive role in exchanging development approaches and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) with other countries on the global cooperation platforms. The country supports people‑centered AI development with good governance and transparency, and strives to balance between promoting innovation and protecting citizens’ rights in order to boost investor confidence and enhance the nation’s competitiveness in the new digital economy.
The Government commits to continuously advancing investment in future industries to turn opportunities from AI’s growth into investment, quality job creation, technology transfer, and increased revenue for the Thai people. It will also upgrade Thailand from a traditional electronics manufacturing base to become the regional hub for AI and semiconductors. This will be a crucial foundation for stable and sustainable economic growth for the country in the future.
