July 5, 2026, Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek disclosed that as narcotics are considered a threat to national security, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has placed great priority on anti-narcotics policy. 

Nowadays, particularly, narcotics networks have been increasingly linked with transnational criminal organizations. More and more sophisticated smuggling methods have been used. Transport routes and international networks have also been exploited to commit crimes. In light of these, the Government has instructed all relevant agencies to integrate their operations, both in terms of intelligence, law enforcement, border security protection, and international cooperation, in order to shut down every channel of drug networks and prevent Thailand from being used as a transit route or operational base for transnational criminal organizations. 

The “Drug Suppression Operation” has been designated as the Government’s major policy to declare war on drug traffickers and to resolutely eradicate their networks. The Prime Minister has instructed all agencies to prepare an interconnected and consistent action plan with relevant organizations at all levels, i.e., district, provincial, and ministerial levels, to unify the operation system and ensure concrete solutions to the problem.

The action plan covers implementation in the following areas: enhancing cooperation with foreign countries, strengthening border security, suppressing drug trafficking networks and government officials involved, reducing impacts on the public, addressing psychiatric patients affected by drugs, implementing the “One District, One Rehabilitation Center” policy, and creating a narcotics-free society.

Over the past 8 months, from October 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, operation outcomes reflect the intensity of integrated effort among the Royal Thai Police, Office of the Narcotics Control Board, Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, Customs Department, and related agencies, as they successfully raided and searched 16,419 drug networks, arrested 203,637 offenders (an increase of 20.36% compared to the same period last year ), and seized more than 997 million methamphetamine pills (an increase of 33 million pills), along with 39.4 tons of crystal meths (an increase of 3.8 tons), and large quantities of ecstasy and ketamine. Additionally, assets worth more than 7.677 billion Baht have been confiscated and frozen in drug-related cases in an attempt to disrupt the financial cycle of drug trafficking networks alongside exercising law enforcement.

Aside from the suppression operation, the Government has also prioritized the preventive effort and rehabilitation for drug addicts, successfully bringing 40,440 users into treatment, promoting cooperation with 2,970 communities, and implementing police–school liaison projects in more than 1,537 educational institutions. Over 1.12 million students have been screened to identify the risk groups for timely assistance provision, while the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) police teacher program has educated more than 252,427 youths on the dangers of narcotics.

According to the Government Spokesperson, the drug trafficking incident involving an airline flight attendant reflects how drug trafficking networks constantly adapt their methods of crime, which prompts the Government to adjust measures to keep pace. The Prime Minister has instructed aviation and security agencies to review and beef up airport security measures, with the adherence to “Zero Trust” principle to ensure the same standard of inspection to everyone. This is in a bid to close loopholes that could be exploited for smuggling drugs and illegal items.

Anti- narcotics is a national agenda. The Government is committed to continuously combating drugs through eradicating trafficking networks, confiscating offenders’ assets, rehabilitating users, building immunity among youth, and enhancing international cooperation. The goal is for Thailand to become a drug-free society and to strengthen confidence of the public and the international community.
