June 2, 2026, following the weekly cabinet meeting, Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek disclosed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul instructed Ministry of Commerce and other relevant agencies to expedite negotiation on United States trade tariff to be concluded the soonest.

The Prime Minister noted that the U.S. has already finalized agreements with several countries, both within ASEAN and with such major economies as the European Union, Japan, and South Korea, leaving Thailand with limited time to negotiate. In light of this, he assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun to direct relevant agencies in expediting the negotiations before the current tariff rate expires on approximately July 24.

As this matter concerns the nation’s overall competitiveness, Thai exporters, entrepreneurs, farmers, and workers across the system, the Prime Minister has instructed that the undertaking be carried out swiftly but prudently with national interest as the top priority. On May 20, 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce chaired a meeting of the Strategic Working Group on U.S. Trade Negotiations. Participating in the meeting were Minister of Industry, the Thai Trade Representatives, and representatives of relevant agencies. This committee had been appointed by the Prime Minister on April 28, 2026, to drive tariff negotiations with the U.S. and to ensure that the rights and benefits of the Thai people, farmers, and entrepreneurs are well protected.

At the meeting, negotiation directions regarding outstanding issues under the Thai–U.S. Reciprocal Trade Agreement (ART) were agreed upon. All agencies will work together in finding constructive solutions and proposals that ensure mutual benefits of the two countries, and in concluding results before the announcement of the U.S. Section 301 investigations.

During May 3–5, 2026, in Washington, D.C., the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce had also discussions with the U.S. Trade Representative who clearly expressed the desire for Thailand to expedite conclusion of ART.  The U.S. Trade Representative also acknowledged Thailand’s sincerity in rebalancing trade, and both sides agreed to continue negotiations at both the policy and technical levels.

According to the Government Spokesperson, the Government will not let Thailand lose momentum in global trade. The Prime Minister has instructed all agencies to accelerate their work so that the tariff negotiations with the U.S. reach a conclusion that best serves the nation’s interests.
