
May 19, 2026, Government Spoksperson Rachada Dhnadirek disclosed that the cabinet, in its meeting today, approved the proposal of Ministry of Finance to revise the composition of the National Committee responsible for preparations for Thailand’s hosting of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. It also approved Friday, October 16, 2026 as a special public holiday in Bangkok, and ordered officials working for Government agencies in the capital to work from home on October 12 (Mon), 14 (Wed), and 15 (Thu).
As for state enterprises, financial institutions, educational institutions, and private sector entities located in the vicinity of the meeting venue, the cabinet called for their cooperation to consider implementing appropriate measures in accordance with local conditions and operational requirements. For agencies with essential missions or pre‑scheduled public services, where cancellation would cause damage or disrupt services, heads of the agencies are authorized to exercise discretion to ensure that Government operations and public services are not affected.
According to the Government Spokesperson, these measures approved by the cabinet are intended to alleviate traffic congestion, facilitate travel, and ensure that the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group proceed smoothly and efficiently. It is also to provide the highest level of security for finance ministers and Central Bank governors of member countries who will be attending the meetings.
It is expected that over 15,000 participants, including finance ministers and Central Bank governors from member countries, together with executives of global financial institutions, thought leaders, and academics, from 190 countries will travel to Thailand to exchange views on the global economy and strategies to addressing various global challenges.
