June 7, 2013, at 1400hrs, Dr. Steve Crocker, Chairman of Board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and a world internet pioneer, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Purple Room, Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House. Government Spokesperson Teerat Ratanasevi revealed gist of the meeting as follows:
ICANN Chairman commended Thailand as one of the first nations to have put priority on internet security, and the Government’s One Tablet per Child policy which provided students with broader knowledge.
Both parties hailed the 25th anniversary of Thai internet and the Thailand domain name registration “.th” on the internet system, and reaffirmed mutual relations and cooperation. The ICANN Chairman also informed PM Yingluck that ICANN had upgraded its internet protocol address (IP) address from IPv4 to IPv6 in order to accommodate the expansion of the internet and internet-related services in the future.
PM Yingluck congratulated the establishment of the ICANN’s Asia office in Singapore and reaffirmed that the Thai Government had placed much importance on the use of internet particularly for healthcare, education, and security, and had a policy to promote wider access of public internet network services in all sectors.
