National committee on space policy discusses on Thailand’s space affairs development

The national committee on space policy emphasized on utilization of space technology for the development of knowledge-based society, as well as scientific and space technology researches for sustainable development.

May 27, 2013, at 1000hrs, at Meeting Room 301, Command Building I, Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul presided over a 1/2013 meeting of the national committee on space policy along with concerned agencies. Participants of the meeting included ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap, and Science and Technology Minister Worawat Ua-apinyakul. Gist of the meeting is as follows:

The meeting acknowledged the guideline for space affairs development of Thailand based on what was approved during the cabinet meeting on June 3, 2008 as proposed by ICT Ministry. The guideline is composed of the following vision, mission, objectives, and strategies:

Vision: Thai space affairs will mobilize socio-economic security, high quality of life for Thai people, and world peace.

Mission: To promote cooperation in the development and adoption of space technology both domestically and internationally in order to maintain socio-economic security of the country as well as sustainable development.

Objectives: 1) Adoption and utilization of space technology to develop a knowledge-based society and learning under the sufficiency economic system; 2) Promotion of scientific and space technology researches for sustainable development.

Strategies: 1) integrative management of national space affairs; 2) development of space affairs for the national security; 3) development of human resources on space affairs; 4) development of space law and international cooperation; 5) space knowledge management and development; 6) utilization of space technology for social development and public interest; and 7) commercialization of space.

The committee also acknowledged an order of the Prime Minister’s Office on the appointment of seven experts on the national committee on space policy to take part in the more efficient and integrative formulation of policies, approaches, measures, plans, and projects related to national space affairs. The seven experts are: 1) Mrs. Nongluck Pinainitisart, an expert on space affairs; 2) General Chatree Thatti, an expert on national defense; 3) Assoc.Prof. Suthee Aksornkit, an expert on communication; 4) Mr. Supan Kanjanasutham, an expert on remote sensing; 5) Mr. Kiattikhun Chartprasert, an expert on foreign affairs; 6) Prof. Jaturon Thirawat, an expert on education; and 7) Mr. Thanes Sucharikul, an expert on law.
