PM Yingluck welcomed the Mozambique Minister and congratulated cordial relations between Thailand and Mozambique which was heading for more cooperation. Thailand had been aware of the importance of the African countries, and intended to forge more interaction with them, particularly the Republic of Mozambique which is a significant ally of Thailand, and one with high and increasing economic potentials among the southern African countries. Thailand was pleased to enhance economic and academic cooperation with Mozambique in such areas as energy, tourism, agriculture, and human resources development.
H.E. Mr. Oldemiro Baloi thanked Thailand for its interest in Mozambique’s potentiality. At present, the country had pushed forward national development, particularly in the economic area, and it was keen with the mutual cooperation and would like to learn from the Thai experiences in such fields as natural resources development (natural gas), and infrastructure development. He also extended an invitation for PM Yingluck to officially visit Mozambique.
Both parties discussed about their intent to promote the South-South Cooperation, and came to terms that a platform should be set up for Thailand and the African countries, as well as international organizations of mutual interests, to discuss and exchange views, and form a network of cooperation. According to PM Yingluck, it was hoped that such initiative of Thailand would lead to an establishment of a possible Asia-African cooperation framework in the future.
On this occasion, PM Yingluck thanked the Mozambique Government for an invitation that enabled her to make a state visit to the Republic of Mozambique during July 27-29, 2013, which would be the first-ever visit of a national leader in the history of Thai-Mozambique relations and the first-ever state visit to an African country of PM Yingluck.
