PM Yingluck’s state visit is upon the invitation of the Government of Mongolia to officially strengthen relations between the two countries as PM Yingluck will be the first Thai Prime Minister to visit Mongolia. Cooperation in the areas of mutual interests as well as the establishment of discussion mechanism for bilateral cooperation particularly in economy, trade and investment, and tourism will be discussed. Exchange of visits, joint discussion between the public and private sectors, and promotion of regional/multi-lateral cooperation will also be pushed forward.
PM Yingluck is also scheduled to attend the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies in Mongolia. The Community of Democracies (DC), with 129 countries as members, was established in 2000 with an aim to promote democracy and reinforce democratic institutions through exchange of views and discussion between the public and other sectors. This year the Conference is held under the theme “Cementing Accomplishments and Strengthening Reforms”. Thailand has been supporting and taking part in the Conference for all these years. At the Conference, PM Yingluck will exchange views on democratic challenges and development from the point of view of Thailand, and will follow up on the global democratic situation as well as perception of other countries on democratic and political movements.
Mongolia is among tops of the world with high economic growth potential, and has a tendency of 10-15% growth for the next 2-3 consecutive years. In addition, Mongolia is rich with natural resources, and in need of investment and expertise from Thailand on coal, copper, gold, rare earth elements, zinc, crude oil, and livestock. The country also aims to develop cooperation with Thailand on the areas of energy, and automotive particularly the pickup trucks which is in high demand in Mongolia.
PM Yingluck and the delegation will leave Suvarnabhumi International Airport on April 27, 2013 at 1100hrs, and will return to Thailand on April 29, 2013 at 1840hrs.
