PM Yingluck congratulated Thai-Lao relations that had been strengthened in all dimensions with constant exchange of visits between high level officials of the two countries. The visit of President of the National Assembly, Lao PDR this time was a good opportunity to exchange views and discussion on the issues of legislation and laws related to the ASEAN Community. PM Yingluck also expressed her delight to welcome Lao Premier Thongsing Thammavong and his wife who are scheduled to travel to Chiang Mai to attend the 2nd Thailand-Lao PDR Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR) on May 19, 2013; and the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit on May 20, 2013. According to PM Yingluck, the visit of the Lao Cabinet would enable bilateral discussion on progress and solution of significant issues as well as set direction of mutual cooperation for ministerial work guidance.
Mrs. Pany Yathotu, President of the National Assembly, Lao PDR, expressed her appreciation for Thailand to take priority in the promotion of relations with Lao PDR which resulted in the strengthening of mutual relations in all dimensions as seen in the constant increase of trade and investment. She also thanked the Thai Government for its support extended to Thai state enterprises and the private sector for their investment in Lao PDR. In addition, infrastructure projects connecting Thailand and Lao PDR, such as the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Chiang khong - Huay Xai), has played a part in reinforcing mutual relations between Thai provinces and Lao Khwaengs, and promoting trade and tourism between the two countries.
