Lao PDR Deputy PM appreciates Thai Government’s assistance in increasing trade and investment

April 3, 2013 at 1330hrs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Lao People’s Democratic Republic paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Ivory Room, Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to attend the 18th Thai-Lao Cooperation Joint Committee meeting. Gist as follows:

PM Yingluck extended her welcome and congratulations to the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on his visit and the success of the 18th Thai-Lao Cooperation Joint Committee meeting which saw progress particularly in various social and economic related projects including infrastructure projects connecting Thailand and Lao PDR such as the 4th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge (Chiang khong - Huay Xai), and the 5th one linking Thailand’s Bueng Karn and Pak Xan.     

As for the economic aspect, the Thai Government expressed support for more social and environmentally responsible investment in Lao PDR by Thai state enterprises and the private sector, and hoped for the same gesture from the Lao Government. On this occasion, PM Yingluck extended her invitation to Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong to attend the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit to be held in Chiang Mai, and a joint cabinet meeting between the two countries this coming May.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith appreciated for Thailand to take priority in the promotion of trade and investment with Lao PDR which resulted in the increase of 5,000 million US Dollars in mutual trade and investment volume. He also congratulated the success of the 18th Thai-Lao Cooperation Joint Committee meeting with satisfactory resolutions and progresses, and reaffirmed the intent of Lao PDR to continue cooperating with Thailand in all aspects.
