The Annual Consultation between Thailand and Malaysia was first held in Phuket in 2004 as a mechanism to strengthen relations between top policy-making level officials of both countries, that is, PMs and concerned Ministers. The aim is also to follow up on cooperation on significant areas particularly solutions to the problems concerning the Southern-border provinces and to follow up on economic development projects along the border areas. This visit marks the 2nd visit of PM Yingluck to the Federation of Malaysia following her first state visit in February 2012, and another bilateral meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister after the first one during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Russia in September last year.
